About FileShrinkr
FileShrinkr is a free online image toolkit built for people who need smaller files without installing desktop software. Compress JPG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC, and related formats; export PDF; crop and resize in the browser; and convert images to or from Base64 when you are wiring up APIs, emails, or prototypes.
The project is developed and maintained by Prabhat Barai, an independent developer. There is no paid plan and no account wall: open the site, upload or paste what you need, and download the result.
Why FileShrinkr exists
Everyday uploads fail for boring reasons: a government exam portal rejects a photo over 100 KB, an email client refuses a multi-megabyte attachment, an iPhone HEIC will not open on a Windows PC, or a marketing page is slow because hero images were never resized. Many “compressors” only handle JPG, force a signup, or upload every file even when the browser could do the work locally.
FileShrinkr focuses on those practical workflows. You can stay in Browser (private) mode for common raster formats so pixels never leave your device, or switch to Server mode when you need HEIC conversion, PDF merge, EXIF removal, or MozJPEG-optimized JPG. Target file-size presets (20 KB, 100 KB, 500 KB) and social resize chips exist because form and social limits are where people get stuck.
What you can do
- Compress and convert — JPG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC in; JPG, WEBP, AVIF, PNG, or PDF out, with quality control and optional target KB sizes.
- Resize for forms and social — crop and set custom dimensions for exam and job portals, or use Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube cover presets.
- Edit in the browser — crop, resize, rotate, and flip on a canvas, then hand off to the compressor without re-uploading.
- Base64 Tools — decode data URLs or encode images for development workflows, with HEIC conversion when the browser cannot decode the file alone.
- Batch and PDF — process multiple images, download a ZIP, or merge pages into one PDF with an optional lossless embedding path.
Browser mode vs server mode
Browser (private) mode keeps JPG, WEBP, AVIF, and PNG compression on your device using the Canvas API. That is the default for privacy-conscious users and offline-friendly sessions after the page has loaded. PDF export, some HEIC files, full EXIF stripping, and MozJPEG still require the server.
Server mode uploads files to a temporary processing workspace on our infrastructure, returns a download link, and is not intended to retain uploads after the job completes. Use it when you need features the browser cannot provide. Details are in our Privacy Policy.

What FileShrinkr is not
It is not a full desktop photo editor, a cloud DAM, or a storage product. We do not sell your images, offer accounts, or promise archive retention. Output quality depends on your source file and settings; aggressive target KB limits will always trade detail for size. You remain responsible for the legality and licensing of anything you upload or download.
